The Suicune ex deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket has a promising mechanic that players will surely enjoy. While it may lack heavy damage, its ability to force opponents to rethink their choices every turn makes it quite fun to play.
With only a few months away from its first anniversary, Pokemon TCG Pocket just recently released a set featuring the classic mons from the beloved Generation 2 games.
With the new cards joining the block, most players argue that Suicune ex poses a real potential, as decks centered around it are performing extremely well both in Solo and Versus modes.
Let’s take an interesting Suicune ex deck build, specifically a unique variant of Suicune ex-Greninja.

PvP-Friendly Suicune ex Deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket

Suicune ex can also be partnered with other Pokemon like Sylveon ex, Gyarados ex, and even Silvally. However, we believe that Greninja is the most stable choice, especially if you want to highlight Suicune ex’s abilities and moves.
Speaking of Suicune ex, it’s a card that can do a couple of things. With its Legendary Pulse ability, you can get an extra card every turn, which, when used with Professor’s Research, significantly lowers the odds of your deck bricking, as you already retrieved four cards from your deck in one turn.
Secondly, Suicune ex’s only move, Crystal Waltz, works like an upgraded version of Pikachu ex’s Circle Circuit.
Crystal Waltz increases in damage the more Benched Pokemon there are on the field, which includes the number of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. This means having an Active Suicune ex will make your opponent think twice before sending over a new Pokemon, as it could help amplify your damage output.
This deck, however, requires proper Energy usage and excellent damage-spreading skills on the player’s part to be successful. Here’s the deck list:
- x2 Froakie
- x2 Greninja
- x2 Suicune ex
- x1 Articuno ex
- x2 Professor’s Research
- x2 Cyrus
- x1 Mars
- x2 Irida
- x1 Silver
- x2 Poke Ball
- x2 Rare Candy
- x1 Giant Cape
How to Play Suicune ex-Greninja
The best scenario for this deck is to play Suicune ex as early as possible. With an Active Suicune ex, you can attack as early as turn two while your opponent hesitates to reinforce their Bench.

In case your opponent attempts to minimize the damage by just adding one Pokemon on their Bench, try to play every Basic Pokemon card you have so that Suicune ex deals as much as 80 damage—enough to take down most Basic Pokemon. In many cases, Suicune ex can close out the game, especially against slow Fire-type decks in the game.
While your Suicune ex provides the early-game pressure, you can develop your Froakie cards into Greninja, and they can dish out some extra damage on any of your opponent’s Pokemon. We advise not to give any Energy to your Greninja unless your opponent tries to counter Suicune ex with an Oricorio.
As long as Suicune ex gets all the Water-type Energy it needs for Crystal Waltz, there’s no need for you to put any more Energy onto it. Instead, you can power up your extra Suicune ex and Articuno ex instead. The Legendary Bird can act as your secondary damage dealer if you don’t have the other copy of Suicune ex in play.
Other Essential Cards in the Suicune ex Deck
The Rare Candies are your main tools for evolving Greninja ex. We also have copies of Irida and one Giant Cape in this deck to enhance Suicune ex’s survivability.
The rest of the cards, namely Cyrus, Mars, and Silver, are meant to further annoy and disrupt your opponent as if Suicune ex is not a big threat already.
If you don’t have Suicune ex as one of your starting cards, you can try your luck with the Poke Ball cards, and you should have them in no time.
Final Thoughts
In case you recently pulled two Suicune ex from the Secluded Springs set, consider building this deck and watch your win rate and rank increase. Although this deck might struggle against the bulky and fast Lightning types, it’s generally a good counter against powerful but slow Fire-type decks.
Many players may choose Giratina ex over Articuno ex. While Giratina ex can deal more damage, it’s a riskier option since powering up its attack through its Ability can be unreliable, potentially leaving you without an attack for a turn.
Feel free to make any modifications to this deck as desired, especially if you don’t have the required cards yet.
