Decimate your opponent’s side of the field and Quick Search your way to pull the most valuable cards in Obsidian Flames!
Pokemon TCG: Obsidian Flames is the third main expansion of the Scarlet and Violet series, and it features a variety of Terastallized Pokemon ex, as well as new versions of Pokemon cards from old sets.
The thing that separates Obsidian Flames from most expansions is the addition of Pokemon cards printed under a different type, such as an Electric-type Tyranitar ex, a Fire-type Eiscue ex, and a Psychic-type Vespiquen ex.
But for today, we’re going to dig a bit deeper and check the current market for the priciest cards under this expansion.
So, brace yourselves, and before you hit your local stores for Obsidian Flames booster packs, here are ten of the most valuable cards in Obsidian Flames:
Editor’s Update (October 2024): Turn up the heat and boost your Charizard collection with the priciest cards from Obsidian Flames! We added some internal links to make this article more helpful to our readers.
10. Basic Fire Energy (Hyper Rare)
A basic Energy card fetching a high price on this list is no mere coincidence. Obsidian Flames led to the popularity of Charizard ex decks, which dominates the current meta by amassing a plethora of Fire Energy cards from the deck.
With the Obsidian Flames being a fan-favorite expansion and the rise of Charizard ex decks, Hyper Rare variants of Basic Fire Energy cards became in high demand, significantly reducing their supply.
9. Charizard ex (Double Rare)
Yes, we just talked recently about Charizard ex decks, and it’s no surprise that a number of Charizard cards will make this list.
This Double Rare Charizard ex is the cheapest Obsidian Flames Charizard you can get if you’re planning to build your Charizard ex deck. It’s Burning Darkness move is just downright OP, dealing at least 180 damage without any nerfing effects at all.
8. Ninetales (Illustration Rare)
Apart from being a good early-game Pokemon card, this Ninetales card captures the allure and majestic image of the Fox Pokemon as it illuminates its surroundings.
Gen 1 Pokemon will always have a place for every OG Pokemon fan, and an Illustration Rare Ninetales card is no exception.
7. Pidgeot ex (Ultra Rare)
Like the Charizard cards, Pidgeot cards also took the market by storm during the release of the Obsidian Flames set.
Pidgeot ex also found their way in many Charizard ex decks, leading to its price surge. Its Quick Search Ability synergizes well with almost all meta decks, especially those that heavily require finding their core cards at the start of a game.
6. Cleffa (Illustration Rare)
The reason behind Cleffa’s above average value is also attributed to its artwork, just like the Illustration Rare Ninetails card.
Just look at the Pokemon’s picturesque background with a shooting star, which correlates with the rumors that the first species of Cleffa entered the earth via meteor.
5. Charizard ex (Ultra Rare)
If Double Rare Charizard ex’s design is not your cup of tea, you can go hunt for its Ultra Rare variant instead, featuring a better view of Charizard’s Dark-type Tera form.
We just realized that it’s kind of weird for a Dark-type Pokemon card to require Fire Energy cards to execute its move. That alone is enough to justify its price, considering that most Charizard cards are Fire-type.
4. Pidgeot ex (Double Rare)
With more decks using copies of Path of the Peak to counter Charizard ex’s Infernal Reign, Pidgeot ex can take back the advantage with its 120-damage move Blustery Wind.
A common feature among Double Rare cards, this Pidgeot ex looks like it’s eager to fly as its image goes out of its portrait box.
3. Pidgeot ex (Special Illustration Rare)
The most sought-after Pidgeot ex card so far in the set is no other than this cutely drawn card showing the Bird Pokemon flying through the breeze near a town or a city.
Again, what drives the high price of these cards is their involvement with powerful Charizard ex decks.
2. Charizard ex (Hyper Rare)
We’re down to our two most valuable cards in Obsidian Flames, and another Charizard ex card still takes the top spot on our list.
Unlike the other Charizard cards mentioned above, this Hyper Rare Charizard ex is arguably the most expensive-looking one with its golden border and background.
1. Charizard ex (Special Illustration Rare)
Special Illustration Rare Charizard ex is considered as the holy grail of the entire Obsidian Flames expansion, and its value rivals other Charizard cards from the previous sets.
As the most valuable card in Obsidian Flames, Charizard ex in Dark Tera form claims the throne with its cool dark-themed artwork sketched beautifully to perfection.
Most Valuable Cards in Obsidian Flames: Conclusion
The Obsidian Flames expansion is indeed a paradise for Charizard fans looking for new cards to bolster their collection.
While there are a handful of powerful Pokemon cards who didn’t make the list, we can see it as an advantage, since other cards like Tyranitar ex and Revavroom ex won’t be that harder to find if you want to add them to your Standard decks.
With all variants of Charizard cards in the set considered as quite expensive, you can call yourself lucky if you managed to pull one.
