Here’s a list of the most expensive chase cards in the Mega Evolution Base Set, in case you’re looking forward to opening some of its products!
For the first entry in the Mega Evolution era, the base set introduced plenty of beautifully illustrated cards that look amazing when displayed together in a binder.
While this set primarily highlighted standout versions of Mega Lucario and Mega Gardevoir, its strong lineup of Trainer cards and other Mega Evolution Pokemon also helped make it a memorable release and, compared to earlier sets, a fairly expensive one.
The cards that you are about to see below are those that fetched the highest prices in the market today, so keep reading until the end if you want to see which Mega Evolution card is the most sought after these days.
But before that, if you want to see some Mega Evolution cards that immediately caught our attention before the set’s release, make a post about Mega Evolution’s coolest cards.

Top 10 Chase Cards in the Mega Evolution Base Set
10. Acerola’s Mischief (Special Illustration Rare)

Acerola is one of Alola’s first set of Elite Four, and she only uses Ghost types in battles. In this SIR card, we can see that she was sewing a shroud with a face on it. Apparently, it won’t be for a Mimikyu, since we all know seeing that Pokemon in its true form means trouble.
Looking at this card’s effects, it looks like it can be quite a powerful tool in taking the game’s favor back to its user, as it can make a Pokemon immune from all damage dealt by a Pokemon ex for one turn.
9. Mega Kangaskhan ex (Special Illustration Rare)

Many Trainers still wonder whether the baby Kangaskhan is a separate species from its adult counterpart, similar to how other baby Pokemon work.
Even when Kangaskhan mega evolves, the baby stays by its side. The main difference is that it becomes more active, now moving around outside its mother’s pouch.
Anyway, whether you’re a fan of this mother and child duo or not, consider yourself lucky if you managed to get one from the booster pack. It’s currently one of the most valuable chase cards in the set.
8. Mega Absol ex (Special Illustration Rare)

This Mega Absol reminds me of the first Rogue Mega Pokemon that I fought in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. If you’ve already beaten that game, don’t those buildings look familiar to you?
Apparently, it’s safe to say that Mega Absol ex is quite an overpowered card, especially if you add it to a deck that specializes in applying lots of damage counters.
And if you can’t use its Terminal Period move, you can go for its 200-damage move, Claw of Darkness, which has an additional effect of discarding one of the cards in your opponent’s hand.
7. Lillie’s Determination (Special Illustration Rare)

Lillie cards tend to be more expensive than most Supporter cards due to the sheer number of fans this girl has. I personally prefer the Ultra Rare version of this card, but its SIR copy isn’t bad either.
Given its powerful mechanic, this card might just become the top Iono alternative, or even a much better version of it, as it lets you have a new set of cards in your hand, which is best used in the first few turns of the game.
6. Mega Latias ex (Special Illustration Rare)

It’s easy to mistake a Latias for a Latios; since they mega evolve, they literally have the same color. Putting that aside, this card’s artwork from AKIRA EGAWA is truly a masterpiece, showing how lightning fast a Mega Latias can be.
If you look closely, the background of this card isn’t just a splash of random colors highlighting Mega Latias. It actually shows the skyscrapers and buildings far below.
5. Mega Venusaur ex (Special Illustration Rare)

Venusaur, together with Blastoise, is often left out in the dust by Charizard in terms of popularity. But if you like Poison types, this card might just become a must-have for you.
For those who want this card, it’s also worth collecting the Illustration Rare versions of Ivysaur and Bulbasaur. When you place all three cards side by side, they combine into one massive, eye-catching artwork.
4. Mega Lucario ex (Special Illustration Rare)

Lucario is no doubt one of the best-designed Fighting types in the franchise. In fact, it was so badass that many fans thought it was a Legendary, as it became the focus of one of the Pokemon movies in the past.
A Mega Lucario card making this list isn’t that surprising at all, especially if you got this SIR Mega Lucario that features not only the Aura Pokemon itself but also other Mega Pokemon engaging in a battle royale.
3. Mega Gardevoir ex (Special Illustration Rare)

Alongside Mega Lucario, Mega Gardevoir also shares the spotlight in the Base Set of the Mega Evolution series. Come to think of it, these Pokemon somehow signify the mind-body dualism, with Mega Gardevoir representing the mind and Lucario representing the body.
Gardevoir fans will surely appreciate this card’s Fairy-themed illustration, which features every member of the Ralts evolution line.
As of writing, it is only slightly more expensive than the SIR Mega Lucario, but that price difference already shows how much the community values the Embrace Pokemon.
2. Mega Gardevoir ex (Mega Hyper Rare)

With a pull rate of 1 in 1,260 packs, anyone who can find a Mega Hyper Rare card like a copy of this Mega Gardevoir ex will surely thank the heavens for such incredible luck. Gold cards in Pokemon TCG aren’t easy to get, let alone its new variant called Mega Hyper Rare.
A Mega Hyper Rare featuring Mega Gardevoir is one of the two top chase cards in the entire Mega Evolution Base set.
It’s essentially the same as the Mega Gardevoir EX, but printed on a card that radiates luxury and prestige.
1. Mega Lucario ex (Mega Hyper Rare)

Mega Gardevoir might have outpriced Mega Lucario in their SIR copies, but it’s a different story when it comes to their Mega Hyper Rare cards.
By a large margin, MHR Mega Lucario exceeds the value of all cards in the set, making it the most expensive chase card as of writing.
Mega Lucario’s (and also Gardevoir’s) artwork gives it an almost divine presence, like a creature revered by people in ancient times.
Final Thoughts
If by any chance you get any of the cards mentioned in this article, have them graded right away. Use the appropriate protection to keep them in mind.
Mega Hyper Rares are this set’s most expensive cards, so keep your eyes peeled for some gold color while opening Mega Evolution booster packs.
Other non-SIR copies of Mega Evolution cards are still worth collecting, so you should still count yourself lucky if you get one.
