Dominate your games and boost your collection in blazing style with these most expensive chase cards in Phantasmal Flames!
Phantasmal Flames is the second expansion for the Pokemon TCG’s Mega Evolution series. It is technically the first expansion after the base set, and it features a newly printed X-form of Mega Charizard ex, along with other megas, namely Mega Heracross, Mega Diancie, Mega Gengar, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Sharpedo.
The set also introduced some beautifully drawn Trainer cards, with Dawn taking the most attention among fans.
Here is the current ranking of the most valuable cards in Phantasmal Flames so you can be on the lookout in case you just purchased some products of the set.
10. Dawn (Ultra Rare, 118/094)

Despite being a character introduced all the way from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, there’s actually a shortage of Dawn cards printed throughout Pokemon TCG’s history.
In fact, it’s only in Phantasmal Flames that we get to have a Supporter card that fully features the cheerful Pokemon Coordinator from the Sinnoh region.
And since Dawn cards are basically rare in a literal sense, this Ultra Rare Dawn is currently sitting at the 10th spot, making it a perfect chase card for those who own a large collection of Supporter cards.
9. Piplup (Illustration Rare, 098/094)

Having a Piplup card as cool as this one will certainly pair well with an SIR or Ultra Rare Dawn card. Apart from being one of the most picked Sinnoh starters, this Piplup card gained a lot of attention with its ice-themed artwork courtesy of Jiro Sasumo.
For those who don’t know who Jiro is, he was the one behind the illustrations of other popular Pokemon cards, such as the Holo Rare Galarian Moltres V from Astral Radiance and the full art cards of Ralt’s evolution line in the Scarlet and Violet Base Set.
8. Meowth (Illustration Rare, 106/094)

Prepare for trouble, make it double! If you can’t get enough of all the Team Rocket Pokemon in Destined Rivals, perhaps you might like this Illustration Rare Meowth card from Phantasmal Flames, which was drawn with a nostalgic-invoking art style.
Cards with unique illustrations tend to command higher prices these days, and we expect the same to hold true for this Meowth card, which oozes a tranquil and cozy vibe.
7. Rotom ex (Special Illustration Rare, 126/094)

As with Dawn, Phantasmal Flames is currently the only set that features a Rotom ex, although several non-ex Rotom cards are already available.
With that in mind, it’s safe to say that judging the artwork of all Rotom cards in Phantasmal Flames, this Special Illustration Rare version is definitely the best-looking one, with the circuit board and other Rotom forms making the ideal background for the Plasma Pokemon.
6. Mega Lopunny ex (Special Illustration Rare, 128/094)

Unlike most cards in this list, Mega Lopunny ex doesn’t rely on its artwork to become a valuable chase card for many fans. Instead, what makes it highly sought after is its playability, with it being a Stage 1 Mega Pokemon that can deal damage with just a couple of Colorless Energy cards.
Of course, there are other copies of Mega Lopunny ex in the set, such as the Ultra Rare and Double Rare versions, but using a Special Illustration copy definitely makes a deck look more premium.
5. Mega Sharpedo ex (Special Illustration Rare, 127/094)

If there’s any other card that rivals the look of the most expensive card in this set, we believe it’s the Special Illustration Rare Mega Sharpedo ex. As one of Hoenn’s most striking Water-type Pokemon, this card perfectly captures the fearsome presence of Mega Sharpedo.
Just like Mega Lopunny ex, Mega Sharpedo ex is another meta-friendly Pokemon, capable of attacking quickly with two Dark Energy cards attached to it. Its best move, arguably, is the Greedy Fang, which allows you to damage your opponent’s Active Pokemon and take extra two cards from your deck every turn.
4. Dawn (Special Illustration Rare, 129/094)

We already explained the reason why Dawn is such a valuable chase card, so it’s kind of self-explanatory why this SIR Dawn is one of the costliest cards in Phantasmal Flames so far.
Just look at the beautiful scenery behind Dawn. Who wouldn’t want a card like that? Moreover, in terms of playability, this card had a rather broken effect, which gives its user all the Pokemon cards it needs in a single turn.
3. Mega Charizard X ex (Ultra Rare, 109/094)

We finally reached the crème de la crème cards of this set. With its back color that mimics the Shiny form of Charizard, many players prefer the X form of Mega Charizard over the Y form.
With all the enduring hype surrounding Mega Charizard X over the years, it is still relevant enough to become the focal point of a modern Pokemon TCG set.
This Ultra Rare Mega Charizard X ex may draw mixed reactions from fans due to its color scheme, which resembles the Shrouded Fable set, but one thing is certain: it currently sells for over $35 per copy.
2. Mega Charizard X ex (Mega Hyper Rare, 130/094)

The last two cards in the list are both significantly more expensive than any other cards in the set, having a price of at least $300.
Phantasmal Flames gifted us with another Mega Hyper Rare card, and Charizard fans are still drooling over this golden card of Mega Charizard X ex, which has a terrible pull rate of 1 in every 1260 packs.
1. Mega Charizard X ex (Special Illustration Rare, 094)

As expected, the SIR version of the Mega Charizard X ex claimed the top spot of the most expensive chase cards in Phantasmal Flames.
With its striking black-and-orange color scheme and a background featuring Charmander and Charmeleon, this illustration has all the makings of one of the most memorable and stylish Charizard artworks to date. A masterpiece of a card, indeed!
Conclusion
Since Phantasmal Flames is a set that targets Charizard fans, pulling any type of Charizard card alone is already a win-win situation, but you might also find some luck in getting the other cards mentioned in this list.
If you’re planning to crack open some Phantasmal Flames packs, keep card sleeves and toploaders ready. You never know when you might pull one of the set’s chase cards.
