Are you a fan of Mega Evolution? You’ll surely love all the Mega Pokemon cards featured in the new Pokemon TCG set.
Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution marked a new beginning in the life of the 29-year-old card game. Despite the absence of any clues and announcements about a new generation of video games, The Pokemon Company somehow decided to start a new era of Pokemon card sets, which will primarily feature various Mega Evolution Pokemon.
The first expansion for the Mega Evolution series is set to release in September 2025, but as early as now, several cards, including those from Japan, have already surfaced online, which further fueled the hype among the fans.

For this post, we’ll share some of the most eye-catching, dopest, and just plain beautiful Mega Evolution cards that you need to keep an eye out for once the set becomes available at your local card stores:

Best-Looking Mega Pokemon Cards From the Mega Evolution Set
Before reading our list, remember that these cards are listed in no particular order. Additionally, all the cards on this list were carefully selected for the quality and presentation of their artwork.
1. Mega Lucario ex (Special Illustration Rare)

Many Lucario cards in the past have great artwork, which includes the Rare Lucario from Unified Minds and the Promo Lucario VSTAR from Sword and Shield Promos. And so far, it looks like this SIR Mega Lucario ex will also join the fray.
I’ve always been a fan of Pokemon cards depicting multiple Pokemon, and this card kind of reminds me of TAG TEAM cards from the Sun and Moon era.
Take a closer look at this card. It’s not just Mega Lucario and Mega Venusaur battling; you can also spot other Mega Pokemon in the background!
2. Mega Kangaskhan ex (Special Illustration Rare)

This card’s artwork by GOTO minori shows the incredible bond between the parent and child Pokemon as they reach a new level of power.
It’s also fun to see Kangaskhan in Mega-evolved form, especially with the young one finally coming out of its mother’s pouch to join the action. Any Kangaskhan fans here? There’s a good chance this SIR will fetch a good price, so count yourself lucky if you pulled one.
3. Mega Gardevoir ex (Special Illustration Rare)

It’s easy to assume that this card screams femininity judging by its artwork’s color scheme. However, Gardevoir, no matter how feminine it looks, can be either a male or a female.
Like SIR Mega Lucario ex, this SIR Mega Gardevoir ex also showcased multiple Pokemon, particularly another image of itself and its past forms (Ralts and Kirlia).
4. Mega Venusaur ex (Special Illustration Rare)

Do you like cards with connecting artworks? Feast your eyes on this SIR Mega Venusaur ex, which looks like a puzzle piece when shown side by side with the Illustration Rare prints of Bulbasaur and Ivysaur.
The color palette of this Mega Venusaur artwork courtesy of mashu bears some similarities to the SIR cards featuring Pecharunt’s retainers in the Shrouded Fable set. It won’t be a surprise considering that Mega Venusaur is, after all, a Poison type, just like Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti.
5. Mega Latias ex (Double Rare)

As the only non-SIR card on this list, Double Rare Mega Latias ex might just become a future chase card due to its artwork, which perfectly portrays the Eon Pokemon as it plunges downward.
All Mega Pokemon cards in the Mega Evolution set share the same art style, featuring vibrant colors and dynamic poses that make them look as if they’re bursting out of the card’s art box. However, Mega Latias ex definitely had the best-looking card among all the Double Rares so far, at least in my opinion.
Conclusion
With a sneak peek at all the Mega Pokemon cards that will hit the market in August, you should have at least some idea of which ones you should look for when opening packs of the Mega Evolution set.
If this list deserves some other wildcard entries, the biggest contenders would be Mega Absol ex, Mega Kangaskhan ex, and the Illustration Rare Vulpix. All of those cards also deserved some love for their well-drawn artworks, indeed.
As of writing, only a handful of cards have been revealed so far. We might see more SIRs once we get closer to the release of the Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution in September.
