Apart from battling, another main aspect of playing Pokemon TCG Pocket is collecting cards from every set.

If you have enough hourglasses, you can open more packs, which help you get the cards that you want, especially those highly sought-after full art cards.

But upon trying to get some full art cards via Wonder Pick, you might notice that other players’ pulls are written in other languages, mostly Japanese, and now you’re wondering how to have the same cards as them.

The languages you’ll see are written in their local terms. If you don’t know how to read kanji, you won’t be able to identify which of the last three languages is the Japanese one.

Step 5: Open a pack, and enjoy!

The game will restart, and as long as your game’s language is set to Japanese, you will keep receiving Japanese Pokemon cards every time you open a pack.

Key Things to Keep in Mind When Getting Japanese Pokemon TCGP cards

Don’t forget the following as you collect more Japanese Pokemon cards in the game:

  • As already mentioned in the last section’s Step 3, always remember where you can find the game’s Language Selection settings. Once your game is entirely written in Japanese, you’ll find it harder to revert it back to English, since the language change will also affect the settings.
  • The cards that you previously owned prior to the changing of language won’t be affected. This means that all the cards you have that are pulled in English or whatever language you enabled before will remain in their original language.
  • A Pokemon may have a different name in other languages, so if you pulled a Charizard ex in Japanese, the card’s name will be written in katakana as “リザードン” or Lizardon, which is Charizard’s Japanese name. The same rule applies to other languages.
  • Cards pulled by other players in Wonder Pick aren’t affected by your game’s language settings. They will appear in the language used by the player who pulled them.

You can also collect more Japanese Pokemon cards in the game by other means, namely through Wonder Picks or Trading.

Wonder Pick

Wonder Pick is a feature that lets you receive a random card from packs opened by other players.

While choosing the card you want can be one of the most frustrating parts of Pokemon TCG Pocket, there’s a workaround if you’re aiming for a Japanese card: simply select a pull from a pack opened by a player using the Japanese language setting, and you’ll be guaranteed to get a card in Japanese.

Always stock up on some Wonder Hourglasses so you can get as many Wonder Picks as you can.

Trading

In case you can negotiate with another player, trading is another efficient way to acquire Japanese cards. Make sure that you only trade cards that you can afford, and their rarity should be the same as the Japanese card that you want to have.

Final Thoughts

Getting Japanese cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket isn’t so hard anymore, right? Just keep an eye on the two FPS settings, and you can change your language back to English any time.

Many players today prefer Japanese cards for various reasons, the most common being that the Japanese lettering is seen as more unique and visually appealing.

But whatever reason you have, don’t let the language barrier stop you from enjoying Pokemon TCG Pocket! Remember that it’s your collection, and you can collect the digital cards in any way you want.
