Aim for the unique cards in the set with this list of the most expensive chase cards in Black Bolt.
For one of the last sets of the Scarlet and Violet series, Pokemon TCG surprised us with the release of Black Bolt and White Flare, which featured some of the classic Unova Pokemon.
With its unique blend of 3D and pixelated graphics, the Gen 5 games made a lasting impression on Pokemon fans, so it’s no surprise that the new Black and White–themed set is receiving such a positive response from the community.
But for this post, we’ll only focus on the most highly sought-after chase cards in Black Bolt. If you want a list for White Flare, check out our separate article about its chase cards as well.

10. Haxorus (Illustration Rare)

Gen 5 gave us arguably the best roster of Dragon types in the entire franchise, and if we’re talking about Gen 5 non-legendary Dragon-type Pokemon, there’s a good chance that you’ll think of Haxorus, the Axe Jaw Pokemon.
Haxorus remained a strong fan favorite in Black Bolt, with its Illustration Rare card with its artwork depicting the Pokemon’s fearsome side, ready to hack and slash everything that comes its way.
9. Serperior ex (Secret Illustration Rare)

Serperior is the final evolution of Snivy, the Grass-type starter for the Gen 5 games. While Grass-type starters are often overlooked in most Pokemon games, Snivy became a viable choice in the games, as Serperior’s high defensive stats make up for its number of type disadvantages.
Serperior ex is the only Stage 2 Secret Illustration Rare that came from a starter in Black Bolt, so rest assured that this card’s price will only keep on rising as long as the hype is still on for this set.
8. Meloetta ex (Secret Illustration Rare)

One of Gen 5’s mythical Pokemon, Meloetta is a Normal/Psychic type that can change the feelings of everyone by singing.
Meloetta only had a few prints of its card in Pokemon TCG, and Black Bolt finally added a new one in the game with this Pokemon ex that can deal as much as 110 damage with just a single Psychic-type Energy.
7. Kyurem ex (Secret Illustration Rare)

Kyurem is another memorable Pokemon known for its power. It is described as the “empty husk” of a dragon Pokemon that got split into two, which became Reshiram and Zekrom.
For Black Bolt’s SIR copy of Kyurem ex, we can see that this Pokemon is struggling to find a real identity for itself as it lives inside a frozen location, most likely the Giant Chasm in Unova.
6. N’s Plan (Secret Illustration Rare)

N was originally an orphan adopted by Ghetsis, the mastermind behind Team Plasma in the games. Also known as Harmonia, N had the unique ability to communicate with Pokemon, much like how Team Rocket’s Meowth can converse with humans in the anime.
N’s Plan is the only SIR Supporter and Black Bolt, and while this card is rather mid in terms of its effect, the well-drawn portrait of N makes it a worthy collector’s item, especially for those who like the Gen 5 games.
5. Genesect ex (Secret Illustration Rare)

Experimenting with an ancient bug Pokemon ended up in the existence of Genesect, another mythical Pokemon that is popular for being the only Mythical Bug-type Pokemon in the series so far.
While we still wait for any Legendary Pokemon to come out as a Bug type, take a look at this Genesect ex, one of the most iconic and best chase cards in the Black Bolt set.
4. Zekrom ex (Secret Illustration Rare)

Here we go, the main Pokemon of this set. Despite being a non-Fire type, Zekrom is capable of covering the world in fire by generating electricity from its tail, which serves as a giant generator.
If you’re a fan of Electric-type Pokemon, this card is a must-have, especially for being a meta-friendly deck that can one-shot any Active Pokemon, thanks to its move, Voltage Burst.
3. Seismitoad (Illustration Rare)

Seismitoad is a Gen 5 Pokemon with a powerful Water/Ground-type combination. Like the evolution lines of Mudkip and Barboach, it only has one weakness: Grass-type moves.
You’re probably wondering how in the world a card featuring a Seismitoad made this list alongside most of the Gen 5 legendaries. The answer is simple — its artwork, which is, by the way, quite an eye candy to look at, is made by Shinji Kanda, who also did the legendary artwork of Giratina V from the Lost Origin set.
2. Victini (Black White Rare)

Victini is the only card that appears in both the Black Bolt and White Flare sets, and apart from its one-of-a-kind monochromatic card design, Victini also bears the newest rarity type so far, the Black White Rare.
While having a red card all over the card makes its text a bit hard to read, BWR Victini’s oddity will make it a dream chase card among those who spend lots of money opening packs of Pokemon cards.
1. Zekrom ex (Black White Rare)

Currently priced around $400, this BWR Zekrom ex is definitely the crème de la crème of the Black Bolt set.
As Zekrom is also called the Deep Black Pokemon, its BWR card also mirrors the same theme with its monochrome black design, which is a vital piece for anyone who wants to build a large Gen 5 Pokemon card collection.
Conclusion
This list of the most valuable chase cards in Black Bolt showcases a variety of beautifully crafted artworks and introduces a brand-new rarity likely exclusive to this set and White Flare.
Basically, any copy of Zekrom ex is a winning pull if you’re opening packs of Black Bolt. However, you should also watch out for other SIRs like the Mythicals and N’s Promise, as they can be traded for equally elusive cards or even sold for a significant amount of money.
