Are you having trouble beating those fast-paced and high-damage Fire-type decks in Pokemon TCG Pockets?
Well, if you’re a seasoned Pokemon fan, the only logical thing to do is to use a Water-type deck, right?
While it’s undeniably true that water beats fire, you still need to come up with an effective strategy regardless of what type of deck you’re building.
Amassing a number of random Water types won’t be enough for you to win games, especially if your opponent can summon a Charizard ex that can destroy your Active Pokemon in one hit.
So, to help you select a build suited to your current collection and playstyle, we come up with a ranked list of the best Water-type decks in Pokemon TCG Pocket, all effective in the current meta.

5. Blastoise ex Staller Deck

The goal to make this deck is quite simple: set up the field for your Blastoise ex. If you can survive several turns before Blastoise ex becomes online, this tough turtle can wreak havoc on your opponent’s Pokemon team.
The best variant that we recommend for a Blastoise ex is this build, where your main attacker is backed up with three stallers; namely Druddigon, Snorlax, and Kangaskhan.
Those three stallers, together with Supporters like Sabrina and Blue, can buy you some time as you protect your Squirtle/Wartortle or feed your Blastoise ex with two more Water Energies to maximize its Hydro Bazooka move.
Just watch out when playing against fast-paced Lightning-type decks like Pikachu ex, or other cards that can snipe those Pokemon on your Bench Spot like Greninja, Dragonite, Articuno, and Zebstrika.
4. Lapras ex + Starmie ex Deck

Lapras ex is a versatile card that can be paired with almost any other Water-type Pokemon.
Its high HP synergizes well with its move that damages the opposing Active Pokemon while healing 20 damage to Lapras ex. That’s basically a free Potion each turn.
A Lapras ex deck can have a high win rate when reinforced with other cards that overwhelm the opponent in the first few turns, such as Starmie ex.
But the best thing about this build is that unlike most Water-type decks in Pokemon TCG Pocket, Lapras doesn’t rely too much on Misty, as you can already score some Knockouts with as fast as two to three turns.
And if you failed in evolving your Staryu early on, you can still bet on Golduck as your temporary main attacker until you’ve finally drawn all the pieces you need from your deck.
3. Greninja + Articuno ex Deck

While this deck might lack the damage needed to take out some bulkier Pokemon in the meta, its actual strength lies in the abilities of Articuno ex and Greninja to deal damage at the same time.
All you need to do is prioritize Articuno ex as your Active Pokemon, while you set up Greninja on your Bench Spot.
Together, this duo can severely weaken your opponent’s backline from tick damage dealt by Articuno ex’s Blizzard and Greninja’s Water Shuriken Ability.
So, if your opponent relies on using Active Pokemon as stallers, this deck is the best deck to counter such a strategy.
2. Gyarados ex + Vaporeon Deck

With the release of the Mythical Island Themed set, players can now build a deck centered around Gyarados ex, a Water-type monstrosity with a rather high-risk-high-reward mechanism.
This deck might fail if you don’t have enough Energies to sustain Gyarados ex’s only move, the Rampaging Whirlpool. With 140 damage, Gyarados can literally Knock Out most Pokemon in the game.
Fortunately, you can minimize the chances of encountering having not enough Energy with Misty and Vaporeon.
When playing this deck, always remember to protect your Magikarp. It only has 30 HP, so avoid putting it in the Active Spot. This is where Articuno ex becomes quite useful, as you can make it your main attacker for the meantime before transferring all of its Energies to your battle-ready Gyarados ex (with the help of Vaporeon).
1. Starmie ex + Articuno ex Deck

When it comes to consistency, nothing beats the Starmie ex deck, as it still stands out as the most powerful Water-type deck in the game.
This deck doesn’t have overly complicated mechanics, and you also have some alternative attackers in case you don’t have a Starmie ex in your hand yet.
Getting unlucky with Misty toss coins wouldn’t matter much either, as all Pokemon in this build can deal damage with only a couple of Energy cards.
If you’re not battling against a Pikachu ex and you manage to draw Staryu and Starmie ex at the start of a game, you’re basically all set for victory, as Starmie ex can spam Hydro Splashes until your opponent runs out of Basic Pokemon to play.
Final Thoughts
Of all the Water-type decks that you can build from the current collection of cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket, these decks are your best bet when you need to achieve victories, both in Solo and Versus modes.
All decks mentioned in this article are highly customizable, so feel free to do some tweaks if you don’t have some of the cards required to build a certain deck. Just keep in mind that any changes you made to the deck might affect the way you execute your in-game strategies.
Alternatively, you can use your available Pack Points to buy the cards you want or be consistent in opening packs once your Pack Stamina runs out so you can have more options to create the best Water-type deck that you can play.
