Here’s the best Metal deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket so far!
With the release of Triumphant Light, Metal-type decks have become more common nowadays with the help of the new supporter card, Adaman.
Adaman amplifies a particular ability that many Metal-type Pokemon possess: reducing the damage they receive from other Pokemon! Combined with an Energy-generating Pokemon like Dialga ex, any Metal-type Pokemon can be a force to reckon with in the current meta.
For this post, we’re going to share a special Metal deck we created that can excel both in Versus and Solo battles.
This deck is centered around Melmetal, a card overlooked by many players during the early days of the game. While Melmetal isn’t a promising Pokemon by itself, when paired with other cards, it becomes an absolute monster that can sustain high amounts of damage.

Melmetal Build: The Best Metal Deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket

Here’s a deck list featuring an aggro-Melmetal, supported by Dialga ex and Skarmory:
- x2 Meltan
- x2 Melmetal
- x2 Dialga ex
- x2 Skarmory
- x2 Professor’s Research
- x1 Dawn
- x2 Adaman
- x2 Rocky Helmet
- x2 Giant Cape
- x2 Pokemon Communication
- x1 Poke Ball
How to Win With This Build

This metal deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket has multiple win conditions, with the best one allowing your Melmetal to Knock Out your opponent’s Active Pokemon with its Heavy Impact move.
Skarmory is the best Pokemon to start your game with, while Melmetal and Dialga ex are safe on your Bench. With just a Metal Energy and a Pokemon Tool, Skarmory turns into a legitimate threat as a Basic Pokemon that can deal 50 damage in the second or third turn.
While Skarmory is your main attacker, you can allocate the following Energies to your Benched Meltan/Melmetal until you can perform Melmetal’s Heavy Impact. You can do the same with Dialga ex, using its Metallic Turbo to power up Melmetal within two turns.
Melmetal’s Hard Coat ability reduces the damage it takes by 20, and if you can use Adaman, it can increase to as much as 40 in a couple of turns.
By the time your Melmetal is ready, Skarmory should have already done enough damage to the enemy, so you can either let it fall or pay for its Retreat cost.
Here are the purposes of other cards included in the Melmetal build:
- Pokemon Communication, Poke Ball, and Professor’s Research: These cards help you draw a Skarmory in the early game, and also allow you to get the major pieces you need.
- Rocky Helmet and Giant Cape: We maxed out the quantities of Pokemon Tool cards to ensure that Skarmory can maximize its damage. They’re also quite beneficial for your Melmetal, especially the Rocky Helmet that can provide extra damage to the opposing Active Pokemon.
- Dawn: A single copy of Dawn is enough, as all it does is transfer an Energy from your Benched Dialga ex to your Active Melmetal, in case you used Dialga ex first.
Pros
- You don’t need to worry about Melmetal’s high Energy cost too much, especially with Skarmory and Dialga ex.
- You can mostly end battles with Skarmory and Dialga ex alone, especially if your opponent relies on squishy Basic Pokemon at the start of a game.
- Melmetal can absorb lots of damage before getting Knocked Out. Since it’s not a Pokemon ex, it only gives your opponent a point.
Cons
- Your Skarmory is basically useless if you don’t have any Pokemon Item cards in your hand.
- Other Pokemon ex that deal more than 80 damage with low-cost moves can get rid of your Skarmory fast before Melmetal can have enough Energies to attack.
- Even if you use Adaman, Charizard ex can still one-shot Melmetal.
Conclusion
Surprise your opponents and ace Solo battles by playing the best Metal deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket! If you’re not a fan of Melmetal, you can also replace it with others like Probopass ex and Bastiodon.
Melmetal is arguably the best choice, though, since it has the highest damage output among all the Metal-type cards so far. We can only hope that future sets will feature more Metal Pokemon, so we can create more flexible decks that better show their true potential.
